I've never been one to buy into many trends, although when I was younger I certainly did. I believe that related to low self-esteem. As I've grown up (and dare I say, matured), I've started to try and focus more on what I like and enjoy versus what a fashion magazine or the media tells me I should like.
This then got me to thinking about how we so often worry about what other people think. With mindfulness, a healthy exercise regimen, eating well, and reducing that need for material goods (I swear I am working on this), we start to worry less about what other people think. We find our comfort, we find ourselves, and we rock it. We own who we are and what we like. Why do we give so much power to another person's opinion? I must've said this before on the blog because I'm having total déjà vu. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and it doesn't mean something is right or wrong - it's their opinion. So yeah, you can think my crazy yoga pants are weird. No problem. They boost my butt into wheel pose, girl!
Have you ever noticed how curious people are about something that's different, or about someone who is unique and marches to his/her own drum? People want to know more about that person; they want to hear where they bought that bag, or may want to copy a style. It's a sincere form of flattery, in this culture, but it also feels like by copying one loses site of one's self.
