Food for thought: how many things do we neglect to do, avoid, or “half-ass” (for lack of a better term) each day, that would realistically take up the teeniest percentage of time out of our day?
I try to think about this more often, especially at night after I brush my teeth and just want to go to bed, but remember that flossing will take only a couple more minutes...and I can afford that over another dental bill!
Another way I am taking care is trying to be more thoughtful with purchases. (More on my shopping problem/habit another day...) I've decided I want to start using more quality skincare products versus ye-olde-standbys at the drugstore. I want to look just as good in 30 years, and this skin is all I've got - girlfriend better nurture it! Over the years, for me it seems like since skincare/makeup line Origins was born in the 90s, we all hear more and more about the chemicals in our products. Moisturizers with alcohol in them? Quel horreur!! And then there are all those benemethylphodactylates (yes, I just made that word up) that make up 97% of the ingredient list. It makes you wonder, I'm slathering all this on my face only for it to seep into my skin and into my bloodstream...scary!!
Approaching a new decade, my goal in more ways than one is to make smarter purchases. Quality purchases, investments. I'm now trying to buy more products that include whole ingredients, maybe even plant-based versus chemical based. I recently met the beautiful (and generous and genuine and sweet and awesome) Adina Grigore at a book-signing event at a lovely local shop Follain back in late February, and that was my turning point. I am obsessed with her cleanser, peppermint lip balm, and make-up remover, and look forward to eventually trying her facial cream. I try to feed my body whole healthy foods, why not feed my skin whole healthy foods too? Although I have only read a little bit of her amazing book Skin Cleanse, this theme from her book has definitely helped me get further along on the path to whole wellness.
So, my readers, I will try to feed my skin more healthfully, I will try to keep up with flossing, and I will continue to improve how I take care.
xx
