I was reading through my emails this morning and stumbled upon this link from Greenpeace. It actually lists different designers/retail stores that are working towards toxic-free fashion. Overall it seems pretty interesting and helpful, but I'm a bit confused considering that documentary I had watched said H&M was one of the companies that is a) overproducing clothing, and b) has horrible conditions for it's workers in other countries. Gahhh! Anyone have any insight on this? Maybe Greenpeace is just supporting them based on the product they are producing versus the way in which they produce it...
Bottom line, I need to start minimizing my purchases and instead maximizing what I have. I know, I sound like a broken record! I think I've mentioned this in several other posts, but it serves as a strong concrete reminder for me to really try and follow this new rule I have set up for myself. Buy less, buy less, buy less! Mindfulness with every purchase.
Sometimes, however, I forget this mantra and end up going a little too buy-crazy. This past Sunday I decided to take part in the South End Sidewalk Sale (you know, I gotta do my part in helping my local community!). I took a quick lap around SoWa (excuse me, South End Open Market or whatever it's called now) and then popped into a store I am so obsessed with, December Thieves, then wandered over to Olives & Grace and had a really lovely conversation with one of the girls who was working. I was eyeing some beautiful tarot cards (that I totally purchased) and we ended up chatting about mysticism and how it's really fascinating. She even recommended a psychic in Beacon Hill she had a reading with who was pretty accurate, I'm totally going! I then stopped by Follain to get some hand soap (finally)...I bought the larger glass bottle, and honestly the soap is so absurdly luxurious. It smells incredible (I bought lavender) and feels silky, plus it didn't dry my hands out like some hand soaps do. Refills will be $8 going forward, which I think we will probably only need to do every 6 months or so. I feel so much more sane supportive a [smaller] local company, especially when it is a non-harmful, safe product!
I also finally stopped by Siena Farms and picked up a few veggies for the week. I need to start just shopping here versus always getting produce at Whole Foods! The shop itself is small and quaint, with gorgeous old original wood floors. Every space is carefully used, and stocked with seasonal goods. They even had gorgeous little quail eggs! Swoon. I just love my city!
